Movie Review#6 [Whale Rider]

“In ancient, Paikea the brave man came from Hawaiki riding on a whale. Māori　is his descendant.” This is a legend of Māori. This is a movie about a girl of Māori and a male-dominated Māori society.

Paikea Apirana is an only granddaughter of Koro Apirana. Pikea had the same name with the traditional brave man. She was called “Pai”. Her mother and twin brother was died when she was born. Koro Apirana was the head of Māori. His son went out to German because he was grieved at the death of his wife and son. He should bring up his granddaughter with his wife. In this tribal society, it was a man only that was able to be the head of Māori and it was hereditary. Koro was not like Pai because she was a girl and she was his only descendant. But he loved Pai pure. But Pai lost heart because she was liked by her grandfather.

When Pai was 12 years old, her father came back to the hamlet. Koro hoped him to be the next head of Māori, but his son was not say “Yes”. Pai decided to go out from the hamlet with her father because she thought Koro thought distasteful for her. But she heard a voice of sea in a car on the road. She returned to her grandfather, but Koro was not changing his thinking. He thought it was sorrow that Pai was not a boy. Well, he opened the school for how to succeed the culture of Māori to only boys. He expected a boy who had character of the head appeared from the school. Pai could not attend to the school because she was a girl. But she was not give up. She learned the traditional songs, dancing, and military art” taiaha” secretly, and her uncle helped her. One day, Pai defeated with a boy who attended to the Koro’s school on a match of taiaha. Koro was angry to Pai very much what she came to the school and use taiaha.

Koro tested the boys. The test was for to be a head of Māori, boys should to pick up a rei puta the necklace of whale tooth in the sea. Koro hurled the rei puta, but the boys could not find it. Koro was sorry, and he was down with the sorrow.
Pai went to find the rei puta in the sea. But her grandmother stopped to give the rei pita to Koro, it was had by her grandmother. And, Pai wanted to get good relationship with Koro. She invited him to the school party; she thought to here her speech for her grandfather.

But, the many whales were on the shore when Pai read the speech. It is big incident. The people and Koro try to back whales to the sea, it was very difficult. When the people gave up trying so, Pai ridded on a whale. Then, the whale returned to the sea, and other whales follow with the whale which Pai ridded. In the time, Pai’s grandmother gave Koro the rei puta. Koro knew the all of things. Pai was helped uneventfully; the people cerebrated to birth of new head of Māori.

I have seen this movie 2 years ago. This movie is very good for education of different cultures understanding I think. I think we can not know about Māori without some Medias. I guess there are many male-dominated societies in the world yet like Māori. I want to go to New Zealand someday. I could enjoy watching this movie.

Movie Review#5 Mrs. Doubtfire

This is story of a strange old woman and man. Daniel Hillard was a second-rate actor. He had a wife, a son and 2 daughters. His wife is Miranda. She is a designer of interior. Their children are 14-year-old Lydia, 12-year-old Chris and 5-year-old Natalie.
The incident happened at Chris’s birthday. Daniel was fired from a job because he didn’t obey superior’s order. But he was not wrong; it was the result what he believed his justice. Daniel gave a birthday party for Chris. But giving a party was forbidden by Miranda because Chris could not get a good record. But Daniel thought he tidied the house still Miranda’s coming home. The party was very flamboyant. Miranda came back home early with a big decorated cake because her son’s birthday. The house was very dirty in confusion. She was surprised and angry. Daniel and Miranda quarreled about each bad point. Daniel could not endurance, he changed fob often. Miranda was pressed with business; she could not spend a time with family. Finally, they decided a divorce. Miranda had parental authority. Daniel could not meet his children without every Saturday. Daniel loved his children so much. There was a condition for he could meet his children freely. He should be a man whom had steady job
Daniel got a job and other home early. The job was sending out of film at TV studio. But he wanted to see his children very much, he got a strange idea. It is he went to the home as housekeeper. He was good at changing his voice because he was an actor. And, his older brother was make-up artist. He called Miranda and said, “I’m Mrs. Doubtfire. I want to be your housekeeper!” The disguise was perfection. Daniel learned cleaning, cooking, and Miranda’s real thinking during he worked as housekeeper. He was not any good man.
Miranda introduced a man for her children and Mrs. Doubtfire. The man is Stuart Dunmyer; her new boy friend. Daniel was very disagreeable because he loved Miranda still. Daniel got in the way of association of Miranda and Stuart. But, the in during, the disguise came to light for everyone. Miranda was very angry and hated Daniel. But Daniel was good father for her children. She didn’t want children felt sad any more. Daniel got a new big business. It was Mrs. Doubtfire’s educational TV program. He was loved by the TV station president. He could get income enough to live with his children.
They found a new method how to be happy their family. Miranda called a new housekeeper. It was Daniel. They did not stop divorce but it is the best they thought.
Mrs. Doubtfire said “There are many shape of family. If your parents are not live same home, the cause is not you. On occasion, it is good so”

The story is a comedy movie. The director made series of “Home Alone” I was surprised the skills of make-up. I thought the ending of this story is happy. But it was not ordinary happy ending. This movie was very nice. It is good for watching with family I think.

Book Review02-14#Anne Frank

This book is the life of Anne Frank. I guess almost people know about her in my class. She is a very famous Jew.
Anne was born 1929. She had an older sister, Margot. She was older 3 years than Anne. Her family had a terrible experience because they were Jews. In the age, there is Jew discrimination. Anne’s family was not exception. They were caught by the Nazis; they had to stay at a camp. There is very cruel surrounding. Anne and Margot killed by typhoid in the camp. Anne’s father could survive only in the family.
This historical fact is very brutality. Anne was very cute girl and popular in her school I heard. She wrote a diary, she call it “Kitty” It is the famous book “Anne’s Diary” I watched the movie of the book, and I read “Anne’ Diary” We should not do cruel discrimination like this again I think.

Book Review02-13#The hare and the Tortoise

This is very famous story in Japan. The hare’s name was Harry, and the tortoise’s name Tommy. They worked with each. Harry thought Tommy was so slowly, and looked down on a little. They decided take part in the race. Everyone believed the win of Harry. But, Harry slept on the way because he relaxes his guard. Tommy was running when Harry was sleeping. As a result, Tommy won the race.
I like this book because it is very cute illustration! I think we should not do neglect whenever. We should try to be good faith if nobody sees to us. And, we can get successes when we try to do our best I think.

The fox and the crow were knew the wise animal by people in the world. The fox was wiser than the crow in this book. The story was a battle of intelligence.
The starving fox wanted a cheese whom the crow. The fox thought he will get a cheese from the crow. The fox praised the crow’s feather. The crow felt good. The fox said “Can you sing too?” The crow sang, and fell the cheese into the fox’s mouth.
I think the good talk have a bad things. And, the crow is not pretty, and it can not sing beautiful voice. It is important what we know ourselves.

Book Review02-11The Sun and the Wind

The sun and the wind competed for victory. The condition was a man take off his coat. The wind tried to blow for a man. He thought he blow his coat off windy and windy. But a man felt cold, he was hiding in a house. The sun warmed him. Then, he took off his coat himself, the sun win the wind.
The sun and the wind were personified in the story. The sun was warm and kind, the wind was cold and cool. There are 2 quizzes in end of the book. This book was easy to read for me. I think it was enough too easy.

Book Review02-10＃The RUNAWAY PANCAKE

This is very cute story. The pancake was made by mom. She decided to make it for her family. They were starving. When she roast up the pancake, it runaway to outside their home! The pancake had mind. The family went after it. The dog, the rabbit, the duck, the cat, the goat, and the fox run after it but they could not catch it. Finally, the pancake was caught by a wise pig!
I like pancake. If my pancake will run away from me, I will feel sorry. But I want to be friends with it!

Book Review02-09＃The Little Mermaid

This story is very famous in the world. I think there is nothing the sad love story expects “The little mermaid” This story was filmed often.
The little mermaid fell in love. The man was the human and the prince. He fell into the sea by a storm, she helped him. But it is not allowed love. She wished to be a human. She could be it by magic but she can not say anything. It is what she can not say “I love you” to the prince. She could not be the prince’s girl. This book’s illustration is very beautiful. I could feel I was in the sea.
I think the prince is fool. I think he should remember a girl which helped his life. I know this is the original story, but I like the same name movie of Disney. It was happy ending.

Book Review02-08#The Jumping Frog

This is the first separate volume of Mark Twain. It was published 1867. He was writer of newspaper, he wrote funny short stories for newspaper.
This book has 3 chapters. There are “The celebrated jumping frog of Calaveras County”, “curing a cold”, and “Mrs. McWilliams and the lightning”. And there are many questions about each story.
This book is shape of problem novel. I did not like this style. I read this book for uncomfortable because there are questions between story to story.

Book Review02-07#Napoleon

This book is history of Napoleon.
He was French, and he was born in Corsica. He was a serviceperson and politician. He was very strong man; he defeated Europe except England after evolution of France. But he could rule over Europe only for 95 days.
I think Napoleon was very grate parson. I can’t know what his life is; I guess he felt fear always. He was killed by stomach cancer, but according to another theory, he was killed by someone. I want to research his history more when I read this book. But this book is difficult for me a little.

I did squabble with my boyfriend. Because of I was too selfish. I do not like myself when I say ill to somebody. But he was not angry. He heard me silently. He knew why I got nervous. He knew the best step to calm me down. He is younger than me but I can feel he is like my older brother when I am in some troubles. Surely, I made peace with him already!

Book Review02-06#Falk Tales from around the World 3

This book has 6 stories. There are The Bremen Town Musicians, Aladdin, The emperor’s new Clothes, Shakuntala, The Kangaroo and the Wombat, George and the Dragon in this book.
The Bremen Town Musicians was very funny story because 4 animals (donkey, dog, cat, and rooster) could not arrive at Bremen finally. And, they wanted to be musicians but they did not do music at last scene. It was written by Grimm bros.
Aladdin is one of the stories of Arabian Nights. I read and wrote a review on my blog already, I have not I should write about this story more.
The emperor’s new Clothes show abilities of self-decision I think. The king did fault because he could not decision himself.
Shakuntala is the story of India. This is like “Little mermaid” by Andersen a little. This is love story.
The Kangaroo and the Wombat is a folk story of Aborigine. This story showed because of shape of Kangaroo and Wombat. It is like Ant and grasshopper.
George and the Dragon is brave story in Roman. It is adventure of George, princess and a dragon. Finally, the dragon was killed by people. I think this story is like “Yamatano orochi” in Japan.
